Board hears concerns over, and the need for, MHS sports complex
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday, March 6, at 9 a.m. to receive comments regarding the proposed financing of $3.5 million to build the Syd Thrift Sports Complex at Middlesex High School and to purchase 41 acres adjoining the landfill.

Horton is new county planner
Charles W. (Wally) Horton IV recently was hired as the Middlesex County Director of Planning and Community Development. Horton came from Fauquier County where he held the position of senior planner. Over his career he has worked for five localities within two states.

Abbott pre-trial hearing set for February 27
A hearing on pre-trial motions in the embezzlement and bribery case of former Middlesex Sheriff Guy L. Abbott has been set for Monday, February 27, at noon in Middlesex Circuit Court. In August 2011, a special grand jury returned 25 felony indictments against Abbott as the result of a Virginia State Police investigation.
