Middlesex considers joining Civil War memorial
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors is considering creating a local Sesquicentennial Committee to join the State of Virginia in the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Middlesex has a colorful Civil War history which, if promoted properly, could be beneficial to the county.

Urbanna Town Council postponed voting on a waterfront condominiums site plan that was submitted 2.5 hours before a council meeting on Monday, September 20. Four council members said they needed time to study the plan for the 14 condos proposed for Urbanna Yachting Center on Urbanna Creek.

The Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation has named Fred and Bettie Lee Gaskins of Urbanna as grand marshals of the 53rd annual Urbanna Oyster Festival set for Friday and Saturday, November 5-6. Fred and Bettie Lee moved to Urbanna in 1966 when, as newlyweds, they purchased the Southside Sentinel, Middlesex County’s weekly community newspaper.

Lancaster County Sheriff Ronnie Crockett said Brent Phillip Snyder, 18, of Windmill Point Road in White Stone and formerly of Middlesex County, was arrested September 15 on a charge of felony child abuse and neglect related to injuries to Landon Selph. The charge of murder was added when the baby died at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.
