Horse racing is in his blood
imageWillis Braxton Sr. is lucky. After 96 years of living, his eyes still twinkle when he tells stories about race horses. Braxton was fortunate to have known the 1918 Kentucky Derby winner “Exterminator.” That legendary horse retired to a farm at Remlik and lived until 1945.

Delegate Morgan: “tougher economic times ahead”
State Delegate Harvey Morgan told the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors Tuesday that the state was $1.3 billion below anticipated budget revenues in September, and the deficit is probably going to be double that in October.

Board takes no action on Tier III status for creek
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors continues to have reservations over designating Urbanna Creek an Exceptional State Water, also known as Tier III or Outstanding National Resource Waters. Tier III status is designed to prevent permanent or long-term degradation of certain waterways.

Supervisors seek changes in composite index
A county’s composite index determines that county’s ability to fund its own school expenses and other aspects of local government, and is a big factor in determining the amount of state funds a county receives. The composite index is based, in part, on county real estate values.
