Jessie responds to NAACP concerns
Jessie, an African-American, and Jack Miller are the two supervisors still on the board who voted in 2007 to “bail out” of Section 5 of the U.S. Voting Rights Act of 1965. The National Voting Rights Act was signed on August 5, 1965 to make it illegal to have discriminatory voting practices in all states.

Topping man convicted in child pornography case
On Wednesday March 21, 2012, Patrick Timothy Jeffers, 49, of Topping, pled guilty in Middlesex Circuit Court to 18 counts of possession of child pornography after having been previously convicted of a like offense, said Middlesex Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael T. Hurd.

Culley resigns as county administrator
Charles Culley has resigned his position of Middlesex County Administrator, effective Sunday, April 15. Culley has accepted the position of county administrator in a larger county, said Assistant Middlesex County Administrator Marcia Jones this week.

Public hearing on school budget is today
The Middlesex County School Board will hold a public hearing for the proposed 2012-13 (FY13) budget on Thursday, March 22, at 4 p.m. in the historic courthouse in Saluda. The public is invited to attend.
