Proposed county budget down 6.7%
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2009-10 (FY10) budget on Tuesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse in Saluda. The $17,868,474 proposal calls for a 6.71% decrease in funding when compared to the current FY09 budget.

On March 31, U.S. District Court Judge Henry H. Kennedy Jr., sided with several environmental groups that opposed the reservoir. On the big points, Kennedy found several of the U.S. Army Corps' and EPA's decisions leading up to permitting the reservoir to be "arbitrary and capricious."

Ronnie Russell of Corbin Hall Farm at Samos has been honored as a state winner in the 2008 National Corn Yield Contest, sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association. Russell placed first in the state in the Ridge Till Irrigated Class with a yield of 251.3 bushels per acre.
