Talks on proposed athletic complex continue
Several years ago, a high school coach suggested that they name the proposed athletic complex at MHS after Syd Thrift, a Middlesex native who served in many administrative roles in Major League baseball. The proposed sports complex was, in part, to honor Thrift for his contributions, but also to encourage contributions from his many associates and others who knew and admired him.

Capacity crowd attends King breakfast

South is new chair of planning commission
At its January 12 meeting, the Middlesex Planning Commission elected Marilyn South as chair and John England vice chair for 2012. The commission set its meeting date and time as the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the historic courthouse in Saluda.

Morgan reflects on his 32 years as state delegate
When the Virginia House of Delegates convened this week, for the first time in 32 years Harvey Morgan of Saluda was not at the state capitol. Since 1980, Delegate Morgan represented the 98th District. Morgan, 81, did not seek re-election last November. Retirement is bittersweet for Morgan. “I still love it (state politics) and it’s hard to give up,” he said.
