County to buy land next to closed Stormont landfill
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday, December 20, to have board chairman Jack Miller sign a contract authorizing the county to pay Brian Thacker $530,000 for 35.4 acres of land next to the closed county landfill at Stormont.

Urbanna budget, finances in disarray
Urbanna is less than six months into the current fiscal year and its budget is already “underfunded” for salaries, town administrator John Bailey told town council at its December 9 work session. Issues with the town budget and finances have prompted town council to consider the need for a treasurer that is “a separate entity,” said Mayor Don Richwine.

Middlesex schools hire assistant superintendent
imageThe Middlesex County School Board approved Michael Cromartie as the next assistant superintendent for Middlesex County Public Schools at its meeting on Monday, December 12. Currently he serves as a central office administrator in charge of adult education in Newport News.
