From jailbird to counselor
For 13 years Kennedy Wise of King and Queen County “lost his soul” to drugs and alcohol. Throughout those dark years, Wise was in and out of the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center in Saluda so much he acquired the jail nickname of “Otis” after the well-known inmate on the Andy Griffith Show.

The Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) is completing a study of the feasibility of applying treated wastewater from a proposed treatment plant in Saluda to land, instead of discharging into Urbanna Creek. Jim Pyne, chief of HRSD’s Small Communities Division, said this week that a “draft” report of the land application study was due June 30. “It will probably take us a few weeks to finalize the report once we get it,” said Pyne.

A black bear was sighted by two Hartfield neighbors in the 12000 block of General Puller Highway (Route 33) near Stamper's Bay Road on Monday, June 29, reported Middlesex Animal Control Officer Ricky Warren.
