State to dredge Mill Creek Landing
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors learned Tuesday that the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) has obtained funds from next year’s state budget to dredge sand from Mill Creek boat ramp at Wake. The ramp has been hindered by the accumulation of sand inside and in front of the ramp.

County budget adopted
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approved a $19,144,393 FY13 budget Tuesday that includes a 3-cent real estate tax hike. The tax hike means county taxpayers will pay 46 cents per $100 of real estate value in the upcoming tax year, compared to the current 43 cents per $100.

Hearing set on revoking condo SUP
At a meeting on April 26, the Urbanna Planning Commission set a public hearing for May 24 at 7 p.m. on a draft ordinance which, if approved by town council, would revoke the Special Use Permit (SUP) issued to Potomac Timber Investments LLC to build 14 condominiums at Urbanna Yachting Center.

Citizens voice concerns over debt and taxes
At the public hearing, Hal Muller of Urbanna said the county was carrying $31 million in debt, which is too much. He said this means there is $31,000 worth of debt for every resident in Middlesex County.
“Can we sustain this amount of debt?” Muller asked. “How are we going to get out of this debt crisis?”
