Grand jury certifies two homicide charges
In separate cases, a Lancaster County Circuit Court grand jury last week found probable cause and issued true bills in homicide charges against Brent Phillip Snyder and Korey Steil Witherspoon. Snyder, 19, of Windmill Point Road is charged with the September 15 homicide and child neglect of a 5-month-old infant left in his care by his live-in girlfriend.

The Middlesex County real estate reassessment has started and, according to the county’s appraising firm, preliminary stu-dies show that the assessed values of real estate in 2007 are about 94.9% of current value. “This means that if you own a $100,000 home now, you currently are being taxed on $94,900 of its real value,” said Steve Wampler of Wampler-Eanes appraising firm.

The seizure of the records was the result of two of three search warrants filed several weeks ago by Jennifer S. Brown, a special agent accountant with the Virginia State Police. The warrants are in connection with the alleged embezzlement and grand larceny of CMVRS funds by Filling while he was treasurer of CMVRS from January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2010.

Fire spread quickly consuming a two story house on Warner Road on Thursday, January 27. The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen located at the back of the wooden structure. The fire was reported by the next door neighbor at about 1:45 p.m.
