Hartfield couple survives boat crash
imageCarolyn and Joe Schott of Hartfield started sailing together on a Sunfish over 50 years ago while in college. They average 1,500 miles sailing per summer and never had a boating accident—until Friday the 13th of July. No one was seriously injured when the Schotts’ 41-foot sailboat and a 35-foot powerboat collided at 4:05 a.m. in the Atlantic Ocean.

Urbanna BZA to consider revoked SUP
The Urbanna Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing on Thursday, July 26, at 6 p.m. to consider the action taken by the Urbanna Town Council that revoked a Special Use Permit (SUP) issued in 2006 to Potomac Timber Investments #227 LLC to build condominiums.

Unfortunately, new synthetic drugs not encompassed under the new law as an illegal substance, are already being sold. This same scenario happened in 2011 after a new law was passed.

Heat wave takes heavy toll on crops
Triple-digit heat and lack of appreciable rain has stunted crops in some areas of the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck and killed the corn in other areas. The record-setting heat “cooked” corn that was planted early in the season, said Jason Bray, a fifth generation farmer at Hampstead Farm near Urbanna.
