MVFD weighs building options
The cost to meet Urbanna’s Historic District building code could cause the Urbanna Firehouse addition to be built at Cooks Corner, fire chief Ray Burch told the Urbanna Planning Commission at its April 28 meeting. The Urbanna Firehouse is in the Urbanna Historic District and changes to the building’s appearance must be approved by the town.

Following two months of closed door sessions and secret motions, Bay Aging’s board of directors on April 28 accepted the retirement of agency president Allyn Gemerek, effective April 30. His departure came three months after the board learned of two state audits questioning financial and administrative procedures at the agency.

On Tuesday, April 19, three days after the tornado, the Hurds got an unusual letter. In the envelope was a canceled check for $35 from 2001. It had been found in Georgetown, Delaware.
