State takes steps to manage drinking water
A regional water supply plan mandated by the State of Virginia anticipates that existing water supplies will be able to meet water demand for the next 30 years in six of the eight jurisdictions of the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission.

VIMS to study how sediment plume from Irene and Lee might affect Bay
imageThe researchers’ main concern is the heavy rainfall that the consecutive storms brought to the Bay watershed, and the resulting plume of river-borne sediments now entering Bay waters. The sediments decrease water clarity—potentially affecting sunlight-loving baygrasses—and can bury bottom-dwelling organisms such as oysters.

Repairs slated at Saluda courthouse green
imageMiddlesex County officials are expecting to have the two large fallen oak trees on the courthouse green in Saluda removed within the next couple of weeks and repairs will be made soon to the historical marker and the Confederate monument damaged in Hurricane Irene.

New Urbanna administrator has been busy
imageUrbanna’s new town administrator, John Bailey, brings with him a variety of work experience. He started work in Urbanna on Monday, September 12. Bailey said he’s worked around the state but never near open water, and he’s looking forward to living in Middlesex.
