Middlesex man convicted of two felonies in boat crash case
Jeremy D. Adams, 31, of Middlesex was found guilty in Middlesex Circuit Court on February 1 by Judge Ray W. Grubbs of two felonies and a misdemeanor related to a boating crash that occurred last summer on Urbanna Creek. Adams was operating a 22-foot Robalo sports-fishing boat with four passengers aboard when the boat struck the Urbanna Creek jetty in the early morning hours of July 23, 2011.

‘Wrong house’ trial begins today
A long-pending lawsuit brought by a Middlesex County woman is scheduled for a two-day jury trial on February 9-10 in Middlesex Circuit Court. Estelle Newcomb originally filed her lawsuit in 2003 claiming that on October 26, 2001 drug agents mistakenly kicked in the door of her house trailer, which turned out to be the wrong house.

Filling to be sentenced Wednesday, February 15
G. Lewis Filling Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, February 15, at 9:30 a.m. in Middlesex County Circuit Court on five felony convictions of embezzling $50,371 from the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad of Urbanna while he was squad treasurer. Filling has been in jail since November 16, 2011, when he entered an Alford Plea to all five charges.

Injured eagle found in Urbanna was shot
imageAn injured and emaciated American Bald Eagle that had been shot was humanely euthanized on Monday, February 6, reported the Wildlife Center of Virginia. A Middlesex Animal Control Officer picked up the wounded eagle on Sunday. The bird had been found near Urbanna Creek on the ground, unable to fly or run.
