County considering running sewage line to jail treatment plant
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to pursue eliminating the county’s current practice of pumping and hauling sewage from the courthouse complex in Saluda. To do this, the county is considering hooking onto the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center’s sewage treatment plant in Saluda.

Missing town sign found damaged; another stolen
With the help of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, town officials were able to get an idea of where the large oval sign might be, said town administrator John Bailey. Town staff used a kayak to traverse a portion of My Lady’s Swamp near the bridge on Stormont Road.

Three non-profits seek EDA grant funds
Three organizations have submitted proposals to the Middlesex Economic Development Authority (EDA) seeking grant money that would promote Middlesex County. All three proposals indicate that increasing the number of visitors and extending their length of stay will have a positive impact on the economy of Middlesex.

‘Wrong trailer’ lawsuit dismissed
A long-standing civil lawsuit against drug investigators who mistakenly kicked in the door of the wrong house trailer during a search warrant execution in 2001 near Water View was dismissed on Tuesday, July 31. Retired Judge J. Warren Stephens ruled in Middlesex Circuit Court that attorneys for Estelle (Newcomb) Roark failed to prove “gross negligence” by agents of the Middle Peninsula Drug Task Force.
