‘Wicked’ storm slams Saluda
On Sunday, March 6, a micro-burst struck just west of Saluda near Town Bridge Road and Zion Branch Road. The high winds twisted off several trees, took a portion of a roof off, blew a window out of a home, and dropped a live power line across Route 17.

Pinetop District supervisor Carl-ton Revere has recommended that the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors consider selling several “potential” surplus county-owned properties.

The draft is borrowed from Colonial Beach and would require yearly safety inspections and insurance. Golf cart owners who comply with the inspection and insurance requirement would get a license sticker from the town showing their cart is registered with the town.

The Middlesex County School Board will hold a public hearing on its proposed 2011-12 (FY12) school budget on Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. The proposed budget is open for public review at the school board office in the Cooks Corner Office Complex or at the school system's website at http://www.mcps.k12.va.us.

A recent landfill consent order filed by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and agreed to by Middlesex County involved payment of a $23,000 corrective action permit fee by the county. There are contamination problems at the landfill, but Middlesex is working with DEQ to remedy the situation, indicated Williams. The solution, however, may get expensive.

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors tabled action on a request for $13,684 from the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (UMVFD) of Water View to cover the cost of damages to fire-fighting equipment sustained in a forest fire at Jamaica on Saturday, February 19.
