It’s often referred to simply as “The War.” And each individual who survived World War II came home with memories. For the men who went into battle, their stories are hard to imagine. The liberty that Americans often take for granted comes through sacrifice. Freedom is not free, and a debt is owed to all veterans.

Lauren Figg was crowned Queen of the 53rd Urbanna Oyster Festival and Emma Fairheart was crowned Little Miss Spat last Friday in Taber Park. As Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen, Figg received a $5,000 college scholarship. Emma Fairheart received a $150 savings bond.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has reappointed Dr. Kirk Havens of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science to the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC). The appointment marks the beginning of Haven’s third consecutive 4-year term.
