Plan for more oyster sanctuaries concerns watermen
The plan targets restoration in 19 areas, 11 in Maryland and eight in Virginia. These areas would become oyster sanctuaries to help the restoration effort.

School officials cut $227,806 from proposed budget
The Middlesex County School Board adopted a 2012-13 (FY13) budget Monday that calls for cuts totaling $227,806 from the amount that was originally proposed. The cuts were necessary after county supervisors adopted a FY13 county budget earlier this month that reduced requested school funding.

VMRC wants sunken barge removed from Urbanna Creek
The Virginia Marine Police will be seeking a court order to force the owner or owners to raise a sunken barge on Urbanna Creek, said John Bull, director of public relations with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC). According to Bull, the barge is registered to Urbanna Yachting Center Sales and Service LLC, the owner of the marina where the barge sank.

Stamm named MES principal
The Middlesex County School Board had a busy closed session Monday night that resulted in considerable action on personnel matters. The board named Amy Stamm, the current assistant principal at Middlesex Elementary School (MES), as the new principal starting July 1 at MES.
