Penny tax hike may go toward dredging creeks
During a budget work session last week, the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors discussed the possibility of raising the real estate tax rate one cent to generate $218,000 a year to accumulate funds for the dredging of established U.S. Army Corps of Engineers creeks in the county.

Assistant school superintendent Dr. James Lane reported that if school officials are going to consider a raise for teachers, this is the year to do it. He noted the Middlesex school system is extremely fortunate for the amount of state aid that schools will receive in the FY12 budget.

The night of July 5, 2010 was traumatic. Rescue personnel were called to the worst local boating accident in recent memory. A 23-foot speed boat with 10 people aboard slammed into a fixed marker in the Rappahannock River about 1.5 miles from Water View. The Water View boat landing became the base for the rescue.
