Mansfield touts land application of wastewater
Disposing of treated wastewater on land instead of in Urbanna Creek could be cheaper and better for the environment, said Pete Mansfield of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors. Mansfield addressed the Urbanna Town Council Monday and showed them a plan for “land application” of treated wastewater.

The latest survey estimates the population has risen to 658 million crabs, a 60 percent increase from last year and the highest seen since 1997. The population estimate is the result of the 2009-2010 bay-wide winter dredge survey conducted annually by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS).

No charges have been leveled against the Middlesex Sheriff's Office or its deputies a month after state police executed a search warrant there on March 15, said sheriff Guy Abbott on Monday. Abbott said State Police investigators have taken no action involving the search warrant.
