Middlesex okays new road setback requirements
Setbacks on small roads do not need to be as large as on big roads. That sums up a county zoning ordinance change approved Tuesday by the Middlesex Board of Supervisors.

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors and county school board will hold a joint budget meeting tonight, Thursday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at the historic courthouse in Saluda. The school board has proposed a $14.2 million 2010-11 (FY11) school budget.

For the first time in 11 years, the Urbanna Town Council has not agreed to pay for extra police patrols in town. On Monday, a unanimous council voted to notify Middlesex County and Sheriff Guy Abbott that it will not be renewing the police services agreement between the town and county.

Middlesex County Administrator Charles Culley reported at a board of supervisors meeting Tuesday night it could take as much as an 8 to 10 cent real estate tax hike in the upcoming 2010-11 (FY11) fiscal year just to “level fund” the county budget and build cash flow.
