Two historical markers to be erected in Middlesex
Thirteen new historical markers have been approved by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and more than half are devoted to African-Americans. Two of the markers will be erected in Middlesex County.

Fire destroys home; 23 firemen battled the blaze
imageThe brick home of Elmore W. Holmes on Zion Branch Road near Saluda was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 7. Holmes had burns on his back, arms and face, said Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) Chief Ray Burch.

Bushey takes command

Arlington judge to preside over Abbott trial
Retired Judge Paul F. Sheridan of Appomattox has been appointed to preside over the embezzlement and bribery trial of former Middlesex Sheriff Guy L. Abbott, said Peggy Walton, clerk of the Middlesex Circuit Court on Tuesday.
