Middlesex considers regional reassessments
Middlesex, along with several other area counties, is considering a regional real estate reassessment program, said county administrator Charles Culley at a county board of supervisors meeting on July 7. Culley said if a regional program is going to “fly,” each county will have to agree to start putting money into a regional reassessment program fund.

Another hearing sought on proposed sewage plant
Roger Martin of Urbanna, an opponent of the proposed sewage treatment plant, has filed a written request with DEQ asking that the public hearing period be reopened for 60 days. DEQ staff replied negatively to Martin’s request via email. “The State Water Control Law requires the State Water Control Board to give the applicant a decision within 90 days of the close of the (public) comment period. The only way the Board can delay a decision is if the applicant agrees,” wrote Rick Weeks of the DEQ.

Storm rips through Lancaster
imageThousands of trees were downed and hundreds of power lines severed Sunday afternoon as a storm system tore through Lancaster County. The storm, which moved down the Rappahannock River around 3:30 p.m., brought with it heavy rains, strong winds and hail.
