Guilty verdicts against former sheriff are reversed
“I’m doing great,” said Abbott on Monday. “I think of all the thousands of dollars I have saved this county and now this trial has blown it all away. ‘Morgan v. Virginia’ marker is dedicated
imageSeveral hundred people attended the unveiling of the “Morgan v. Virginia” historical state highway marker last Saturday at Middlesex Courthouse. The marker recognizes civil rights pioneer Irene Morgan, who in 1944 refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger.

Smith withdraws from mayor’s race
Janet H. Smith said this week she has withdrawn as a candidate for Mayor of Urbanna in the November 6 election. Smith withdrew as a mayor candidate upon advice of her attorney. On Monday, Smith emphasized that she is not a write-in candidate. With Smith withdrawn, incumbent Donald Richwine is running for re-election as mayor—unopposed.
