Tornado causes $6.8 million in damage in Deltaville
Call it a miracle—Saturday’s tornado that cut through the heart of Deltaville injured no one in this waterfront community. In just a few minutes the tornado with winds up to 135 miles per hour flattened sections of the community and caused an estimated $6.8 million in losses.

The first emergency storm call the sheriff’s dispatcher received that evening was that Corine Johnson’s mobile home on Warner Road near Pinetree was completely destroyed by the microburst, and that the mobile home of Bessie Bagby near the Johnson home also was flattened.

When Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department fire chief Jimmy Walden saw Zoar Baptist Church in ruins Saturday night, he immediately called for backup from the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department in Urbanna.
