Bracke sentenced to 39 years in prison
Judge Shaw said Bracke’s numerous sentences are to run consecutively, which means his prison term is the sum of all his sentences added together. Middlesex Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Hurd said inmates in the state system must serve at least 85 percent of their sentence.

DEQ to hold public hearing on sewage plant
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a public hearing in the near future on a wastewater permit for a proposed sewage treatment plant Middlesex County wants to build near Saluda, the county board of supervisors was told on Tuesday.

McCain carries Middlesex
Almost 79% (6,007) of active registered Middlesex County voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s Presidential election. Republican John McCain received 59.01% of the Middlesex votes (3,545), and newly-elected Democratic President Barack Obama received 39.78% of the votes (2,390).
