Oysters continue comeback
The news is good! Virginia oysters appear to be making a formidable comeback. VMRC public relations director John Bull noted that last year 236,000 bushels were harvested commercially from the Virginia portion of Chesapeake Bay. This year there are indications the harvest will be over 250,000 bushels.

Middlesex IDA okays bonds for RWC
Refinancing bonds for Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RWC), an assisted living facility for seniors in Irvington, will net the Middlesex Industrial Development Authority (IDA) about $22,000 in annual income. The income is derived from the IDA’s fee of 1/8th of a percent per year of the unpaid balance.

Christmas Friends shoppers needed
Christmas Friends Inc. this week kicked off its 27th year helping the less fortunate of Middlesex County, and hundreds of volunteers will pitch in to help complete the mission over the next four weeks. Wrapping and delivery crews and other volunteers will soon join the effort.

The winners: Obama, Kaine and Wittman
President Barack Obama won re-election Tuesday with 303 Electoral votes and 50% of the popular vote. Obama’s primary opponent, Republican Mitt Romney, captured 206 Electoral votes and 48% of the popular vote. The Democrats kept control of the U.S. Senate, and the Republicans retained a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
