The Middlesex County Public Library has hired Ralph G. Oppenheim as its new director. Oppenheim comes from the Cabell County Public Library in Huntington, W.Va., where he was responsible for collection development, selection in fiction, and all non-print media.

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors has tabled a decision on how much funding the county will provide to install historical road markers recognizing the accomplishments of African-Americans John Henry St. Clare Walker and Irene Morgan.

An expanded display of antique boats is planned for “Wings & Wheels,” which is now “Wings, Wheels & Keels,” from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, at Hummel Field in Topping. “The number of boats has grown so much that we decided to change the name of the show to Wings, Wheels & Keels,” said Jamie Barnhardt, show coordinator.
