Lawsuit settled out of court; subdivision approved
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to settle a $14 million lawsuit out of court. Land developer Gene A. Ruark of Deltaville filed the $14 million lawsuit against the county in October 2, 2008. Since 2004, Ruark has attempted to get the county to rezone his land at Big Neck Farm near Hartfield for a 379-unit housing development.

Deltaville man gets 20 years in methadone case
For 13 months, Middlesex Sheriff’s Office investigators worked hard to determine how Allen Haywood, 18, of Deltaville got a deadly dose of methadone that killed him on May 26, 2008. The investigators’ persistence resulted in Taylor Drew Munson, 22, of Deltaville pleading guilty on August 11 to federal charges of distributing methadone.

Lt. Gov. Bolling: Hard budget decisions
imageRepublican Lt. Governor Bill Bolling visited with Middlesex County officials and businessmen Monday afternoon at J&W Seafood in Deltaville. Bolling brought a message of long-range hope, but a dismal short-range financial forecast for the state economy.

Roaming dogs again a town issue
Nuisance dogs have at least one Urbanna resident calling for a leash law. On July 24, town resident Diane Gravatt wrote a scathing letter to the Urbanna Town Council pointing out enforcement problems with the current town animal ordinance. Attempts in the past to enact a leash law in town have brought considerable opposition.
