In 1995, Harry and Belinda Simmons were looking for a small-town grocery store that they could run together. The couple had been operating two IGA grocery stores in West Virginia and wanted to downsize. The Urbanna Market seemed to be a good fit, and they purchased the business in the summer of 1995—just three weeks before it was destroyed by fire.

In Middlesex Circuit Court on Wednesday, November 16, Lewis Filling of Urbanna was convicted of five felony counts of embezzling $50,371 from the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad of Urbanna. Filling entered an Alford Plea and when read the charges, he pled guilty to all five counts.
