Town’s financial records seized by State Police
On Friday, June 10, the Virginia State Police seized 12 “large banker’s boxes” and three paper bags containing accounting records, bank records, accounts receivable and accounts payable records and personnel records from the Town of Urbanna administrative office, according to a search warrant “inventory” filed in Middlesex County Circuit Court.

At about 6 p.m. Bessie had a visitor, Angelette Boyd, who noted that the sky was getting a little dark as if a storm was approaching. None of the three women had heard there was a tornado watch in the area. Then, it came. In a split second a narrow-path tornado struck Bessie’s trailer and “sucked” Angelette out the door, onto the ground and, fortunately, to safety.

Cynthia Beverley of Wake told the board that her daughter, a freshman at Middlesex High School, was being racially harassed by an older white student and his friends. When the matter was brought before the high school’s principal it was not satisfactorily resolved in “any manner,” she said.

At a June 7 meeting of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors, Saluda District supervisor Pete Mansfield confronted Joyce Engineering Inc. president L.E. “Butch” Joyce over several bills issued to the county by Joyce. Joyce Engineering is the firm hired by the county to address contamination problems at the county landfill, which has been closed for 18 years.
