‘Wrong trailer’ lawsuit dismissed
A long-standing civil lawsuit against drug investigators who mistakenly kicked in the door of the wrong house trailer during a search warrant execution in 2001 near Water View was dismissed on Tuesday, July 31. Retired Judge J. Warren Stephens ruled in Middlesex Circuit Court that attorneys for Estelle (Newcomb) Roark failed to prove “gross negligence” by agents of the Middle Peninsula Drug Task Force.

Trial of former sheriff begins Aug. 9 in Saluda
The trial of former Middlesex Sheriff Guy L. Abbott, who is charged with 25 felonies, is set to begin Thursday, August 9, at 9:30 a.m. in Middlesex Circuit Court in Saluda. In August 2011, a special grand jury returned 25 felony indictments against Abbott as the result of a Virginia State Police investigation authorized by the Virginia Attorney General on November 3, 2009.

Motorists may encounter delays in Middlesex at Norris Bridge
An extended work zone on Route 3 in Middlesex County near the Robert O. Norris Bridge at Topping this week may cause minor travel delays for motorists. Contractors are milling and paving Route 3 in Middlesex in the vicinity of the Norris Bridge. Also, painting work continues on the bridge.

White Stone man injured in single-car crash at Hartfield
imageBurnette L. Kenner, 56, of White Stone was involved in a single-car accident on Thursday, July 26, at 6:06 a.m. on Twiggs Ferry Road at Hartfield. The crash occurred in front of Coves on Wilton Creek subdivision.
