No tax hike in Urbanna
There is no tax increase in Urbanna’s $543,000 budget for fiscal year 2010-11 that starts July 1. The budget includes a 2% raise for town employees, their first raise in three years. The 2% pay raise is about 1% ($5,400) of the budget, said council member Don Richwine, who takes over as town mayor on July 1.

Urbanna Town Administrator Lewis Filling told the town council on Monday he will not serve as a member of council, a position he was elected to in May. Filling cannot serve on council and also serve as town administrator, said town attorney Andy Bury.

Middlesex Sheriff Guy Abbott is being investigated by the Virginia State Police for embezzlement, "embezzlement by officers of public or other funds," and misuse of public assets, according to affidavits for search warrants that were filed in Chesapeake Circuit Court on June 16.
