Saluda man charged with attempted first-degree murder after police chase
David O. Thomas, 51, of Saluda, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and four other felonies after firing a gun and fleeing in a vehicle from police Saturday night in Saluda. Thomas also is charged with three misdemeanors including driving while intoxicated, reckless handling of a firearm, and reckless driving.

Alcohol was a factor in the June 3 boating accident that resulted in the deaths of two people when their boat slammed into the seawall at the entrance to Windmill Point Marina. Conservation marine police Sgt. Richard Goszka reported that Robert Andrews Taylor Jr., 46, had a blood alcohol level of 0.22, “almost three times the legal limit” of 0.08.
