Morgan will not seek re-election
Delegate Harvey B. Morgan, 80, of Saluda announced this week he will not seek re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 98th Legislative District. Currently in his 32nd year of service, Morgan has been a state delegate since 1980 and is completing his 17th term in office. He never lost an election.

Boat operator Steven W. Nixon was sentenced on Tuesday, May 3, to 19 years in prison for felony and misdemeanor convictions in connection with an alcohol-related boat crash on July 5, 2010 in the Rappahannock River that killed one woman and injured 9 other people, some seriously.

The cost to meet Urbanna’s Historic District building code could cause the Urbanna Firehouse addition to be built at Cooks Corner, fire chief Ray Burch told the Urbanna Planning Commission at its April 28 meeting. The Urbanna Firehouse is in the Urbanna Historic District and changes to the building’s appearance must be approved by the town.

Following two months of closed door sessions and secret motions, Bay Aging’s board of directors on April 28 accepted the retirement of agency president Allyn Gemerek, effective April 30. His departure came three months after the board learned of two state audits questioning financial and administrative procedures at the agency.
