A trial date of November 16-17 has been set for G. Lewis Filling Jr. who is facing five counts of embezzling money from the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad (CMVRS) of Urbanna while he was squad treasurer. The trial will be decided by a jury.

Concerns over racial issues in the Middlesex County Public Schools were voiced again at the county school board meeting Monday night. Dorri Combs of Stormont, who has a child at St. Clare Walker Middle School, said she considered taking her daughter out of the county school system because of racial conflicts in the school.

The four candidates seeking the nomination for the 98th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates in the August 23 Republican primary addressed voters in Saluda on Saturday at American Legion Post 82. The four candidates are Ken Gibson of Gloucester, Sherwood Bowditch of Gloucester, Keith Hodges of Urbanna, and Catesby Jones of Gloucester.
