Public input on comp plan sought
The final community forum to gather public comments on the “draft” of the Middlesex Comprehensive Plan will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, at Hermitage Baptist Church in Church View from 5 to 8 p.m.

Outdoor fires unlawful before 4 p.m.
Virginia’s 4 p.m. burning law went into effect on Feb. 15—the start of spring fire season in Virginia. This law prohibits burning before 4 p.m. each day (Feb. 15-April 30) if the fire is in, or within 300 feet of, woodland, brushland or fields containing dry grass or other flammable materials.

Wright named acting principal at MHS
School superintendent Rusty Fairheart recently announced that assistant school superintendent Rashard J. Wright has been appointed acting principal at Middlesex High School for the remainder of the school year.

Supervisors seek $1 million bond sale
The Middlesex Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 on Feb. 3 to pay the county fund balance back for improvements at Middlesex High School and St. Clare Walker Middle School, and the construction of 10 airplane hangars at Hummel Field in Topping.

3-month investigation nets alleged ‘meth’ dealer
Law enforcement officers from several agencies executed a search warrant on a home on Green Branch Loop in Hartfield on Feb. 3 where they found methamphetamine, reported Captain M.E. Sampson of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, who also is an agent with the Tri-Rivers Drug Task Force.
