Fifty-seven apply for job of county administrator
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors has narrowed its search for a county administrator to four candidates, said interim county administrator Bill Whitley on Tuesday. “I think and hope by then the board will be in a position to talk among themselves and offer the position to someone,” said Whitley.

Major repairs being made to Twigg Bridge
imageThe John Andrew Twigg Bridge that connects Middlesex and Mathews counties is 59 years old. And, the 2,100 foot-long structure has been showing its age for some time. The first major overhaul of the Route 3 bridge across the Piankatank River began about two months ago and is expected to be completed by May 2014.

County considering running sewage line to jail treatment plant
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to pursue eliminating the county’s current practice of pumping and hauling sewage from the courthouse complex in Saluda. To do this, the county is considering hooking onto the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center’s sewage treatment plant in Saluda.
