Region studies dredge funding options
The emergency dredging of Jackson Creek began on August 4. The channel, last dredged in 1970, has silted in and narrowed to about 25 feet as marked by the red and green temporary buoys above. The new channel will be straightened slightly and will be 60 to 80 feet wide.

Delinquent water bills have added to Urbanna’s $10,000 cash flow problem. On Monday, the town council voted to cash in a $10,372 CD that is about 20 years old. At one time it was getting a good interest rate, but now pays very little interest, said Mayor Don Richwine. This is the only CD the town has.

A trial date of November 16-17 has been set for G. Lewis Filling Jr. who is facing five counts of embezzling money from the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad (CMVRS) of Urbanna while he was squad treasurer. The trial will be decided by a jury.
