Middlesex composite index falls
At his last official Middlesex School Board meeting on November 14, outgoing school superintendent Rusty Fairheart announced that the county’s composite index, a state formula that determines the county’s ability to pay for its own school expenses, has decreased from 7.4 to 7.232.

The Town of Urbanna has asked for an extension of the VDOT grant for Phase II of the streetscape improvement. The town was under a deadline of December 2011 to complete Phase II, which would improve Virginia Street from Cross Street to the Urbanna Town Marina at Upton’s Point.

The couple had been operating two IGA grocery stores in West Virginia and wanted to downsize. The Urbanna Market seemed to be a good fit, and they purchased the business in the summer of 1995—just three weeks before it was destroyed by fire.
