Filling sentenced to 25 years
G. Lewis Filling Jr., convicted of embezzling $50,371 from the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad of Urbanna during the five years he was squad treasurer, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with all but 3.5 years suspended, on February 15 by Middlesex Circuit Court Judge R. Bruce Long.

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors has instructed county attorney Mike Soberick to contact the four living trustees of the St. Clare Walker Steering Committee to settle ownership issues surrounding the 13.71 acres of land at the Cooks Corner Office Complex.

Middlesex County will seek a new engineer to guide the county through environmental issues at the closed county landfill at Stormont. The county’s current engineering firm, Joyce Engineering Inc. of Richmond, recently asked that its contract be terminated, and the supervisors voted unanimously to do so.
