Horton is new county planner
Charles W. (Wally) Horton IV recently was hired as the Middlesex County Director of Planning and Community Development. Horton came from Fauquier County where he held the position of senior planner. Over his career he has worked for five localities within two states.

A hearing on pre-trial motions in the embezzlement and bribery case of former Middlesex Sheriff Guy L. Abbott has been set for Monday, February 27, at noon in Middlesex Circuit Court. In August 2011, a special grand jury returned 25 felony indictments against Abbott as the result of a Virginia State Police investigation.

G. Lewis Filling Jr., convicted of embezzling $50,371 from the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad of Urbanna during the five years he was squad treasurer, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with all but 3.5 years suspended, on February 15 by Middlesex Circuit Court Judge R. Bruce Long.

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors has instructed county attorney Mike Soberick to contact the four living trustees of the St. Clare Walker Steering Committee to settle ownership issues surrounding the 13.71 acres of land at the Cooks Corner Office Complex.
