Public hearing on budget is Tuesday
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, on the proposed county budget for 2012-13 (FY13) in the historic courthouse courtroom in Saluda. The budget totals $19,159,533 and includes a 3-cent real estate tax hike.

Town council seeks to revoke condo SUP
It’s been more than five years since the Urbanna Town Council voted 4-3 to approve a Special Use Permit (SUP) for Potomac Timber Investments LLC to build 14 condominiums at the Urbanna Yachting Center. However, the town later rejected the site plan for the condos. The developer responded with a $4.5 million lawsuit against the town.

Big blaze in Topping
imageAs the wind picked up, sparks from the fire pit caught a wood pile on fire that was against the garage. The fire quickly spread to the building and the garage was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Town council to review status of proposed condos
At its 7 p.m. meeting on Monday, April 16, the Urbanna Town Council will review the status of a Special Use Permit (SUP) granted to Potomac Timber Investments LLC in November, 2006 to build 14 condominiums on Urbanna Creek at the present site of Urbanna Yachting Center.

Marchers seek ‘justice for all’
imageAbout 200 people held a peaceful march in Saluda last Saturday to show support for Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old who was shot and killed in Florida recently. “The Middlesex NAACP would like to thank all who were involved in making this event happen and for the many donations,” said county NAACP president Mark Lomax.
