The Middlesex County NAACP is seeking help from the Department of Justice’s Community Relations Service based on claims of discriminatory actions and unequal treatment of students and staff of the Middlesex County Public School system.

The Middlesex County School Board voted unanimously Monday evening to appoint Dr. James Lane as the next superintendent for Middlesex County Public Schools. Dr. Lane has worked in Middlesex County for three years, serving as assistant superintendent of instruction for the past two years and one year as principal of St. Clare Walker Middle School.

Middlesex County oyster shucker Deborah Pratt has been named grand marshal of the 54th annual Urbanna Oyster Festival. Pratt has represented the United States four times in the World Oyster Shucking Championship in Ireland and finished second in the world in 1997.
