Supervisors discuss ways to deal with Obamacare
President Barack Obama’s mandatory health-care plan, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, has Middlesex County officials planning ways to sidestep having to provide expensive health care to part-time county employees. Currently, Middlesex County does not provide health insurance benefits to part-time workers.

Alleged bank robber caught within 2 hours
A man wearing sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt under his coat held up the First Union Bank on North Main Street in Kilmarnock shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday. He did not get very far before he was arrested by town police.

Norton Hurd is recipient of Pride of Middlesex award

Now in its 14th year, the Pride of Middlesex (POM) award is given annually by the Rotary Club to recognize and honor individuals or groups that exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”

Middlesex to terminate machinery & tools tax
During a budget work session on Tuesday, February 5, the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors agreed to eliminate the county’s machinery and tools tax. “If we were the Town of West Point and had the paper mill, this tax would mean a great deal to our local government,” said county administrator Matt Walker.
