Reveres are 2012 ‘Pride of Middlesex’
The Middlesex Rotary Club has selected Charles and Sally Gayle Revere of Hartfield as the recipients of its Pride of Middlesex award for 2012. Charles Revere, a native of Middlesex, graduated from Middlesex High School. He attended the University of Richmond where he played baseball (All-Southern Conference pitcher for three years) and met and married Sally Gayle Shepherd.

Middlesex County Attorney Mike Soberick informed county supervisors at their February 21 board meeting that four living trustees of the new St. Clare Walker Steering Committee are willing to turn over 13.71 acres at Cooks Corner Office Complex to the county—provided the land is used specifically for “community or school board activities.”

The Middlesex County NAACP continues to voice concern over the county board of supervisors’ decision in 2007 to “bail out” of Section 5 of the U.S. Voting Rights Act of 1965. Essex and Middlesex counties and the City of Fredericksburg opted to bail out of the program in 2007, and were given approval by the U.S. Justice Department.

The Urbanna Town Council voted unanimously Monday to appoint Bob Calves as town treasurer for the salary of $1 a year. The salary is a formality. The town code requires the treasurer to receive and disburse money as directed by the town council.
