Parents and NAACP want action taken on racial problems at MHS
Cynthia Beverley of Wake told the board that her daughter, a freshman at Middlesex High School, was being racially harassed by an older white student and his friends. When the matter was brought before the high school’s principal it was not satisfactorily resolved in “any manner,” she said.

At a June 7 meeting of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors, Saluda District supervisor Pete Mansfield confronted Joyce Engineering Inc. president L.E. “Butch” Joyce over several bills issued to the county by Joyce. Joyce Engineering is the firm hired by the county to address contamination problems at the county landfill, which has been closed for 18 years.

A 37-year-old woman and 46-year-old man died after their boat crashed into a seawall at the entrance to Windmill Point Marina on the Rappahannock River Friday night. Police identified the woman as Catherine Smith Williams, originally from Tappahannock but living in Richmond, and Robert Andrews Taylor Jr. of Bowling Green and Tappahannock.

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to approve a $97,575 bid from Docks of the Bay construction company to dredge a portion of the mouth of Jackson Creek in Deltaville. The project will be 75% funded through a Port Authority grant. The board agreed to fund $13,125.
