New book recalls earlier days on the Rappahannock
For nearly 50 years, the community of Sharps on the north bank of the Rappahannock River and Urbanna on the south bank were tied together by steamboats. Both were ports of call for steamers out of Baltimore and Norfolk.
R.E. Strong 5K
In honor of Ruth Ellen Hurley, friends, family, runners and walkers gathered Saturday, January 25, to participate in the first annual R.E. Strong 5K run/walk. The group departed from Taber Park in Urbanna at 9 a.m. Donations were collected to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Bon Secours Medical Group has opened its latest full-service doctor’s office to provide community care in Urbanna. The Urbanna Medical Center will provide family and preventive medicine services.
Urbanna Harbor Gallery opens new exhibit Friday
Urbanna Harbor Gallery will present its first exhibit of the year, “Escape to Ireland,” beginning January 24 and continuing until mid-March. It features works by owners Barbara M. Hartley and Cloyde W. Wiley III, who have not featured their own art since opening the gallery in 2011.
