Local oyster shucker featured in new book
imageMiddlesex County’s own national oyster shucking champion, Deborah Pratt, is featured in a watercolor painting and sketch in a recently-published book by renowned artist Mary Whyte titled Working South. The painting of Pratt is titled “Pearl, Oyster Shucker, Urbanna, Va.”

Railroad club to host open house & display trains
imageThe Rappahannock River Railroaders will host an open house on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the club building on Ball Park Road, which is off Route 33 in Deltaville. There will be eight trains running on three layouts. They consist of three gauges—HO, O and G.

‘Meet Your Local Artists’ opens April 8
"Meet Your Local Artists" will be held Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, at Cross Street Coffee in Urbanna. The show hours are 4-9 p.m. on April 8, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on April 9. The art show will feature painters, photographers, jewelers, sculptors and writers from the Middle Peninsula.

Thursday’s ‘Lock Up for Life’ benefits Relay for Life
A “Lock Up for Life” fundraiser will be held Thursday, March 31, from 10 a.m-2 p.m. in the Tom Carter Gym at the Cooks Corner Office Complex. Folks throughout Middle-sex County will be headed to “jail” to raise money for the Relay For Life of Middlesex.
