‘Ocean in Motion’ coming to Urbanna waterfront
Surf’s up in Urbanna! The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center has packed up the ocean, taken it on the road, and is bringing it to the Urbanna Oyster Festival on November 5-7. The adventure begins with the touch tanks.
Crowning of Oyster Festival Queen will be Nov. 6
The selection of the Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen is a long-standing tradition that dates back to 1960, the year before Urbanna Days became the Urbanna Oyster Festival. The first queen was crowned on a flatbed trailer on the day of the festival.
Urbanna Oyster Festival’s ‘best kept secret’
Shh, don’t tell anyone—it’s all happening down at the Urbanna waterfront on Thursday, November 5! This party is all about the oyster as well, but the emphasis is on how to restore them to Bay waters rather than just eating them!
Memories of Remlik Wharf
Agnes Brown Miller was born in 1909 and grew up a short distance from Remlik Steamboat Wharf at the end of Lord Mott Road. Her childhood memories include the old Nelson Hotel, the daily arrival of steamboats to the wharf, and Urbanna’s Regal Theater that featured silent movies.
