Boat parade, fireworks & more on July 5 in Urbanna
Urbanna’s Independence Day celebration will be held on Saturday, July 5, at the Urbanna Town Marina on Urbanna Creek, with games, food and music all capped by fireworks. The rain date is July 6. Everyone is invited to enjoy a free day at the town pool and to the activities at the town marina, which begin at 6 p.m.
Countdown to the Leukemia Cup Regatta
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is being flooded with registrations from racers around the Chesapeake Bay to participate in the Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup Regatta on July 11-13 in Deltaville.
‘The Holmes Brothers’ awarded NEA National Heritage Fellowship
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) recently announced that “The Holmes Brothers”—Wendell Holmes, Sherman Holmes, and Popsy Dixon—are recipients of a 2014 NEA National Heritage Fellowship, the nation’s highest honor in the folk and traditional arts.
Event to benefit young cancer victim
The family of Sharon Darnell will host a “Christmas in July” event on Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Urbanna Firehouse. The event will benefit Abbi Schaud of King and Queen County. Abbi is a 4-year-old victim of neuroblastoma (childhood extracranial cancer).
