Russian plane dazzles crowd
imageA Russian built Yak-50 dazzled the crowd when it took off from Wings, Wheels & Keels last Saturday at Hummel Field in Topping. One of about 66 Yak-50s in the world and one of just 13 in the United States, the entire plane was sent back to Russia in 2009 to be rebuilt, said owner/pilot Johnny Mazza III of Colonial Heights.

Marker honoring Irene Morgan to be dedicated 10/13
On Saturday, October 13, at 10 a.m., the Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society Inc. and the Middlesex NAACP will sponsor a dedication ceremony honoring Irene Morgan Kirkaldy (1917-2007), one of our nation’s civil rights pioneers. The dedication will be held at the historical courthouse building on General Puller Highway in Saluda.

Ray Pittman’s ‘Revival’ to play benefit at maritime park
imageRaised in Lancaster County, Ray Pittman and the Revival is a hip, vintage style rock band with a full helping of soul flavor from the Memphis Stax/Volt era and wonderful, fun, playlist of beach music. Reminiscent of “Tower of Power” or “Blood, Sweat and Tears,” the band was formed in 2009.

‘Blues & Brews’ set for Saturday in Gloucester
The Gloucester Main Street Association will host Gloucester’s third annual premier blues and craft beer festival, “Main Street Blues & Brews,” on Saturday, October 6, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 6596 Main Street, Gloucester. Visitors may enjoy over 30 different microbrews including St. George, Allagash Brewery, Williamsburg Alewerks and many more.
