Local Scout celebrates making Eagle
In order to become an Eagle, a young man must earn a total of 21 merit badges. Eleven of these are required, the other 10 are electives. An Eagle Scout also must serve in positions of leadership for six months at each rank, from Star to Life and then finally Eagle.
Urbanna Farmers’ Market is Saturday
The last Urbanna Farmers’ Market of the year will be this Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Southside Sentinel. There will be vendors with produce, plants, baked goods, goat cheese, jewelry, and handcrafted, monogrammed and crochet items.
Fourteen seek title of Oyster Festival Queen
The Southside Sentinel is profiling two Queen contestants and their Little Miss Spat contestants each week. Each Queen contestant wrote a press release on their project and background. This week we are featuring Susan Heyman and Micah Reed.
Sponsorships needed for festival’s Education Day
The now-familiar "Bea Hayman Clark," Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s educational deadrise, will be in Urbanna Creek later this month. From October 13-23, local students will be joining Captain Sollner and educator Yancey Powell to learn about the Bay and how to help reverse its decline.
