Veteran railway operator is Oyster Festival Captain
imageThe Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation has named Deltaville native Ed Deagle the Captain of the 55th annual Urbanna Oyster Festival set for November 2-3. Deagle grew up in a maritime family. His father, Lee Deagle, operated a small railway on Jackson Creek until 1935 when he purchased Linwood Price’s large railway on Fishing Bay.

Firehouse fund drive continues
imageThe new addition is complete at the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department in Urbanna. Donations helped pay for the three-bay structure used to house firefighting vehicles. Individual “specific” donations paid for windows and doors to help fund the expansion.

Queen contestant raises funds to fight blood cancers
imageFor her community service project, Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen contestant Kelly Revere of Hartfield, a senior at Middlesex High School, worked with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Chapter Office in Richmond.

‘F.D. Crockett’ to flagship boat races
It is appropriate that F.D. Crockett returns to her “birthplace” each year. Her hull, built in 1924, is that of a “Poquoson log canoe,” and was combined with an internal combustion engine rather than the traditional sail so that she was “state-of-the-art” at the time.
