Chesty Puller home opens to the public Friday

General Lewis “Chesty” Puller’s home on Gloucester Road in Saluda will be open to the public on Friday, November 14, to honor the famous officer. The open house will celebrate the life and service of the most decorated officer in the history of the Marines.

Pratt repeats as Virginia Oyster Shucking Champion

Deborah Pratt repeated as champion of the Virginia State Oyster Shucking Contest, which was held Saturday at the Urbanna Oyster Festival. Pratt’s time of 3:23 to shuck two dozen oysters was nearly two minutes faster than Brokenborough, her nephew.

Festival time is here!

Oysters, prepared with flair, will be everywhere; from bare on the half shell to warmed in stews or “sandwiched” in fritters. Hundreds of visitors will “Lion up” to get those famous oyster fritters, freshly handmade by the Middlesex Lion’s Club.
