Tornado victims out of hospital
After nearly a month in hospitals, the two Warner women injured in a tornado on Saturday, April 16, are out and living with relatives. A short time after the Warner tornado, a stronger tornado twirled a path through Deltaville and toppled Zoar Baptist Church and destroyed or damaged nearly 30 homes.
In Topping, they too remember
Through a gravelly-wooded path partially shielded from a blazing morning sun, they came. A small group of veterans and families, led by a contingent of Knights of Columbus, marched down to the cemetery in the woods off Route 33 to honor their fallen comrades, family members and friends.
Art on Fishing Bay is Friday in Deltaville
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will once again present Art on Fishing Bay during this 13th anniversary year of the Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup series. The art show is set for Friday, June 3, from 6-9 p.m. at Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville.
Author remembers her roots
Joan E. Gosier is author of Cotton Pickin’ Paycheck
, a journal of her life that she self-published in 2009 and has been updating ever since. Gosier’s father, John Robert Johnson, was a native of Middlesex born in 1909. His ancestors were slaves of the Jones family that owned Hewick Plantation near Urbanna.
